The ArAl project: a mix between arithmetic and algebra

Abstract

The article presents the ArAl Project, a way for didactic innovation that believes the teaching of arithmetic in a pre-algebraic key. The aim is giving a vision of algebra as a language showing socio-constructive teaching methods starting from the exploration of appropriate problem situations. Giancarlo Navarra's book Arithmetic and Algebra: an intertwined learning path from 5 to 14 years ago is the leitmotif of the whole discourse.
