Tytonidae
Abstract
In this section, we present one zoological family group at a time, as an example of animal variety. The family is a taxonomic unit containing a set of species having certain characteristics in common, the result of evolution, which testify to the origin from a single progenitor. This "portrait" deals with Tytonidae, a family of Owls (nocturnal birds of prey) which contains the two genera Tyto and Phodilus, with numerous species distributed in all continents; in particular, it mainly focuses on the species Tyto alba, the common barn owl.
