Abstract

Developments within biology and the practical problems posed by ecology and the social sciences are pushing for the development of increasingly dynamic, multilevel, and interdisciplinary approaches, which face ideological, institutional, and economic obstacles. A more integrated vision is necessary to fully understand the relationship between genotype and phenotype, between organism and environment, and between the different subsystems of a single environment.
