Diatoms at risk

Abstract

Diatoms play an essential role in marine ecosystems, as producers of organic matter and oxygen. The increase in sea temperatures, causing a decline in upwelling phenomena, compromises the rise to the surface of these tiny photosynthetic bacteria, threatening the geo-biological mechanisms on which life in the sea is based.
