Abstract
The meaning assumed over time by the term Citizen Science is examined here: from citizens' contribution to the collection of data of scientific interest, to participatory science in a broader sense which provides citizens with the possibility of accessing research results, to democratic science in the properly political, claimed as active participation in decisions motivated in a technical-scientific way, especially in matters of the environment and health.
