The many lives of Pietro Omodeo. An evolutionist between naturalism and culture
Abstract
At 104 years old, on January 20, 2024, Pietro Omodeo ended his life. Zoologist, cytologist, historian of natural sciences, he was, with Montalenti, one of the first great Italian biologists of the 20th century. In the post-war period he opened our culture to evolutionary thought and with his historical-critical research he sowed the seeds of what would later also become a peculiar historical philosophy of biology. Saverio Forestiero and Elena Gagliasso remember his figure and his work.
