Abstract

Digital and electronic devices have transformed, and in part facilitated learning, access to knowledge, work modalities, and interpersonal relationships. However, they are also responsible for certain negative physical and mental effects, which have particularly impacted the so-called “digital natives”, namely members of Generation Z. Among the most evident consequences are social deprivation, fragmentation of attention with a consequent decline in performance, sleep disorders, and screen addiction. There has also been a rise in internalising disorders, such as anxiety, depression, emotional instability, and self-harming behaviors. This situation calls for timely and collective efforts to address and counter these issues.
