How is the relationship between habit and principles structured in the acquisition of new ideas or the learning of new knowledge? Is there a transition from habit to principles, or is it a relationship of mutual exclusion? Through this lens, our discussion also aims to open a new avenue for the historiographical category of empiricism: it compares Locke and Kant on this point, initially through their classical epistemological texts, but more importantly by examining their pedagogical writings.
