After providing a general overview of the state of the art on the presence of Aristophanes on the Polish theatre scene and the Polish translations of his comedies, this article focuses on Wealth, analysing the partial translation by Anna Maria Komornicka (1955) and the only complete translation available today, published in 1970 by Janina Ławińska-Tyszkowska. The section on the Ławińska-Tyszkowska translation will also analyse, in parallel, the text used as the basis for the first production of Wealth in Poland (1968), directed by Włodzimierz Herman; the director’s changes to the text will be observed, and an attempt will be made to trace his motivations, methods and aims.
