Author Guidelines

Article processing charges, Article publication charges: no publication or processing charge is applied.

Accepted languages: English, Italian, French, German, Spanish. All articles will be published in their original language.

Article length: up to 25.000/30.000 chars (incl. notes, abstract, and keywords).

Review article length: up to 5000 chars.

Abstract: English abstract is compulsory. Recommended length of 120 words or 600 chars.

Keywords: in English, ideally four to six (e.g. sub-subject area, methodology, topics, reference authors, historical period, geographical area).

Article body: authors can submit unformatted articles. Times/Times New Roman 12pt is preferred. Blockquotes should stand out clearly.

References: Footnotes are preferred to in-line references; please include a full list of references at the end of the article.

Anonymity and Author name: submissions must be anonymous. Authors will have to include given name, family name, academic affiliation, and public email address in their final version.

Stylesheet: please stick to the template provided.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
