In this new study on the urban sanctuary of Metaponto, drawing inspiration from the analysis of a griffin protome discovered here and largely unpublished, some considerations are developed regarding the earliest cultic practices in Metaponto between the 7th and 6th centuries BCE. In particular, a new divine attribution is proposed for the so-called Temple C, traditionally associated with Athena.
