About the Journal

Ostraka. Rivista di Antichità (ISSN 1122-259X) is part of the A band ANVUR periodicals valid for national scientific qualification for area 10, Sciences of Antiquity. It was founded in 1992 with the explicit desire to refer to the intellectual and methodological experience of Dialoghi di Archeologia, a historical periodical of archaeology inaugurated in 1967. Since the first issue, the stated aim of the founders of Ostraka magazine has been to develop a 'global science', promoting interdisciplinary and inclusive knowledge. The main intention was to encourage dialogue between historians, archaeologists, philologists, anthropologists and legal scholars to offer an articulated and integrated vision of the ancient world. Based on this methodological approach, pursuing a unified vision of the civilizations of the past, the journal welcomes within its scope original articles relevant to diversified thematic areas, examined in their historical, economic, religious, anthropological, technological, institutional, artistic, and literary dimensions. The historical period and geographical area range from protohistory to late antiquity, explicitly focusing on the Greek, Etruscan and Roman civilisations without neglecting the relevant interactions with the Near East. The journal includes contributions in Italian and foreign languages (French, English, Spanish and German) by scholars of different nationalities, from academia, museum and research institutions, both Italian and foreign.

The journal, initially issued by Loffredo Editore (Naples) from 1992 to 2012, has been published by Edizioni ETS (Pisa) since 2013.

In addition to the thirty-two issues of the journal, there is a special two-volume edition, published in 2012 as conference proceedings, and a series of monographs on various topics in the Quaderni di Ostraka series, published by Loffredo Editore since 2001.
