In the manuscript section of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, I discovered unpublished letters that Jacques Lacan wrote to Alexandre Kojève dating from 1935. These letters will soon be published by Jacques-Alain Miller1. I state this discovery in the text below as well as information and reflections that we can draw from it concerning not only psychoanalysis and the existence of what could be called a “first Lacan,” but which relate to, above all, the entire period of formative thought and the human sciences in France.
