Abstract

The contribution examines a rare Venetian term, zuliana, which occurs in some Renaissance period texts with different meanings (‘cruel woman’; ‘physical or mental illness’), and attempts to give a unified historical-ethimological explanation by referring to the names of supernatural beings based on the Latin diana.
